How Do Plastic Bags Affect the Environment?

Plastic bags were first introduced in 1862 in London. The term plastic was coined in 1909, but did not really take hold until after World War I. Prior to that, plastic was used in something called bakelite, which was primarily made from coal.

    Creation

  1. Creating plastic bags allows chemical waste to become mingled with domestic sewage, because it isn't economically feasible to treat the waste separately. These chemicals pollute streams, bays and oceans when treated sewage is released into local bodies of water. Sewage treatment plants are equipped to handle these wastes.

    Roadway Litter

  1. Plastic bags are lightweight and often get caught in the wind, creating eye sores by getting hung up in the tree. On the ground, they can block rainwater and block light from getting to emerging plants.
  2. Marine Litter

  3. Marine animals frequently ingest plastic bags accidentally. A recent United Nations Environmental Programme report estimated approximately 95 percent of seabirds have plastic in their stomachs. Sea turtles mistake plastic bags for jelly fish.
  4. Landfilling

  5. Plastic doesn't degrade quickly, and landfilling plastic bags means more space is taken up. It also poses a threat to animals who live at the landfills such as birds, mice and raccoons. These animals may ingest bits of plastic bags or become entangled in them.
  6. Burning

  7. Burning plastic bags releases toxins into the atmosphere, creating pollution.

Why are plastic bags so bad?

Around 13bn plastic bags are given free to UK shoppers every year.
The bags can take between 400-1,000 years to break down, and like all forms of plastic they do not biodegrade. Instead they photo degrade, breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits that contaminate soil, waterways and oceans, entering the food chain when ingested by animals.
Many plastic bags end up as waste on our beaches, streets and parks. When a plastic bag enters the ocean it becomes a harmful piece of litter. Many marine animals mistake plastic bags for food and swallow them, with painful and often fatal consequences. Nearly 90% of floating marine litter is plastic.

Plastic Bag VS Recycle Bag

Share
It's time for us to take action on healing the world!!Our earth is sicking now..We should say ''NO'' to plastic bags is the first step to save the earth!!Do you know that there are actually 500 billion to 1 trillion of plastic bags the world consumes?aren't you think that is ridiculous..As we know, plastic bags is type of production from oil, and it is non-renewable resources. Thus, the more plastic bags we consume, the more oil we use.Based on research, few plastic bags are recycled and most are left to loiter on the Earth for the next 1,000 years in landfills, trees, oceans, and everywhere in between. It is because the cost to recycle plastic bags is much more costly than to produce a new plastic bag. Besides, the increasing of plastic bags which is being abondoned in everywhere is harmful for those living things, and it might just kill the animals in a seconds.Take a view on the video below:-

No plastic bags to use doesn't mean it's the end of the world. We still can choose for the alternative option..That is used Recycle Bag!!!Based on research, there are several benefits for using recycling bag:-
  • Recycling plastics helps conserve energy by replacing virgin material in the manufacturing of new products.
  • Plastic bags are primarily made from natural gas, so recycling this material allows this energy to be made into new products or recovered for its energy value.
  • Recycling plastic bags is extremely important, especially when you consider that countless bags end up in the ocean where marine life can mistake them for food.
